ABS sensors – Determining wheel speed

Function and value

ImageDetector01.PNG
There are different methods of determining wheel speed. The sensors for speed detection do not always have to be integrated into the wheel bearings. For example, speed can also be determined by a sensor ring (gear ring) on the drive shaft (joint). A wheel bearing without ABS function may therefore be suitable for vehicles fitted with ABS. Rely on the catalog data here: If ABS is not asked about when determining a part’s suitability, it is not relevant in this case.
You can see the ABS coding on wheel bearings using the FAG sensor board (part number 999 1300 750). Simply hold the card’s test window over the bearing sensor ring (seal): If the ABS function is present, the magnetic segments will be shown in the test window.
